There is an ongoing controversy in the UK where the corrupt government is openly neglecting people with ARFID due to sheer incompetence by sectioning them without proper treatment instead of actually using people trained to treat this stupid mental health condition WITHOUT involuntarily committing them, resulting in patents getting abused by grossly incompetent staff.
ARFID is an eating disorder that is pretty much "picky eating on steroids", people with this disorder will not only avoid foods based on smell and even appearance if the food looks gross, but they also struggle to eat stuff based on things such as taste and texture and can find themselves forced to spit out food and can even gag on it, people with this condition are also more sensitive to "food quality" and will not eat stuff if it's not prepared right.
Examples, sorry that all the sources are woke, I could not find anything else talking about this retarded issue:
Reminds me when the UK was sticking do not resuscitate orders onto people with downs syndrome during covid.

Turns out they been doing this for a while.

its all just fake news right?
Liverpool Care Pathway for the Dying Patient. The concept goes back a ways.
That particular issue is more sinister than just incompetence or the NHS and reflects a practice done to people in the USA too, like to Grace Schara (Grace's dad explains the course of events at 4:40, their lawsuit against the hospital is being heard in June) and lots of the elderly (more stories from the covid era). Seems to me to be much more coordinated than coincidence can account for.
I worked in the field and have never heard of ARFID before.
I'm sure there are always outlier cases.
But I'm always skeptical when brand new diseases are conjured up de novo.
It sounds like low-functioning autists who refuse to eat anything but one specific dish for every meal, forever.
Regardless of if it’s real or fake, involuntary commitment probably isn’t the right treatment. Although I suppose it’s kind of funny to say “well, if you’re going to pretend to be crazy, we’ll make you live up to it.”
As did I
But this existed before, this is just a new name/rebranding, DSM V consolidating a few things IIRC. Particularly in autism (and most of this is in kids with autism), but also as a thing where kids had a swallowing disorder or issue early on, which even if it was resolved surgically, it would then self-perpetuate as a behavioural issue as the parents were anxious af and reacting to every minor issue, the kid picks up on it, then becomes more likely to gag, which sends the mom into a bit of a panic, scaring the child further... basically they're training/conditioning each other to have incredibly stressful meal times and the kid to avoid eating. Or also just 'severe' picky eating to the point where it reaches clinician significance as you noted, the extreme outliers
these are all things that existed for ages.
Have you seen the food in hospitals recently? I have.
It makes prison look good. Toast that's soggy and limp, meals that are barely edible, not even remotely healthy, let's not even talk about the tea. I came out with the craving for a fucking salad, fresh fruit and veg, forget it.
And that was the regular stuff. My mum was reduced to a puree diet in July. A literally stinking microwaved tray of "something". She seemed to survive the 3 months in yoghurt and ice cream.
God forbid the poor people that go in for a eating disorder, nhs food isn't fit for pigs let alone people.
The perfect storm of elimination diet nutrition, a captive audience, industrial scale food preparation, for-profit third party vendors and ruthless cost-cutting.
I thought that was just standard Bri'ish cuisine.
Isn't this a mental issue? Those with low functioning autism has this problem at the worst.
This is the first time I ever heard of this thing.
Ohhh noooo a 3rd world country sucks
Anyways
Shouldn't have given up their guns.
EDIT: Lol triggered some redcoats.
