John of Patmos and no one knows what his ethnicity was.
He was exiled to Patmos. Also, the name is a pretty strong indicator of his ethnicity.
He was exiled but he is refered to as John of Patmos. Some think he was the apostle John. His name like everyone else's is anglicized so I don't think it's the clue you think it is. The truth is nothing is known about him
It's not a clue. It's proof positive. John is anglicized, but the original name is something like Johannes, which is a Jewish name. Greeks and Romans didn't have Jewish names.
We just know he called himself John. He could have been using a nom de plume. And Paul was a Roman citizen so some did have Jewish names
