And we know they'd never lie about something being a Chinese spy program (or muh Russia) to ban something they simply don't like....
I mean, we knew it was a Chinese company who made it from well before it got big or mattered whatsoever. Any company based in China is a vulnerability in that regard because all bugmen are part of the hive.
Your line of reasoning only works if someone didn't pay attention whatsoever until the government started talking about it.
To me, the argument falls flat knowing they still allow Chinese phones to be sold in the US, among many other Chinese products that can be used to do exactly what they're claiming to stop with the TikTok ban.
So until we reach perfection we should do nothing?
Alright, better apologize to Elon then since we can't deport everyone so we better just stop doing anything.
I understand that argument. I'm just so wary of supporting the government banning anything because we know it's only a matter of time until they expand the definition and start banning more things.
So the question I'm asking myself is, "Do the benefits of a TikTok ban outweigh the negatives from opening the door to our government banning more websites and social media apps?"
I don't think the answer is yes because China has endless other ways to obtain the same information. It's like plugging one small hole on a sinking ship while half the boat is missing and saying welp it's better than not trying to save the boat.
