Tech layoffs are happening because the tech companies foolishly over spent on woke feminist trash. They have to get rid of these toxic parasites and other staff as a cost saving measure.
The "skill shortage" is a thing because they can't find people with the right tech skills and experience because:
DEI / ESG kept capable white men out of both education and work force in favour of feminists trash. Toxic trash who do no work and cry on Tiktok. Hence Vivek / Elon comments on horrible American culture.
Tech companies want to reduce wages because they feel toxic workers don't deserve what they are being paid now and / or they need to recoup the lost money spent on woke feminist trash
Except the layoffs tend to not be the DEI on a lot of this companies but most of the issue comes from cost reduction, the fact that they want to force lowering wages is at least crap, the tech work-force is there and the pajeets are not good, despite what Elon thinks.
Exception exist but all those entry level pajeets are mostly underskilled and are freaking annoying to deal with. The entire "yes, yes is solved but" mentality I'm seeing while delivering the crapiest code AI can produce is not exactly what anyone should be striving for.
