Anime always had the reputation of being weird and strange but people used to just accept it as its own thing and as Japan being Japan. . But it wasn't until recently (Around covid time actually) when it became mainstream it of course brought in all the trouble makers and activists(aka tourists) who started acting up and condemning people over fiction.
It's sad that I'd trade in all of these modern retards for actually psychotic 90's weeb anime freaks, at this point.
Those people were fucking trouble - I'm talking the really obsessed ones - but at least they weren't actual subversives. They were just weirdos. They weren't trans, and they didn't hate the West or anything. They were creepy, they were a bit dangerous under the right circumstances, but they weren't the enemy of civilization. And they largely grew out of it.
It's not that it isn't weird anymore, it's because troons and feminists are deciding what's acceptable. They'd push "My Cute Little Sister's 7th Grade Gooning Adventure" if it was yurifag or trap shit
They'd push it even if it only had a yaoi couple side-characters in it.
Just look at Cardcaptor Sakura. Because that IS the series being described: Some young girl being put in fetish outfits by her best friend (who likes to film it) while her older brother and his gay lover watch over them.

And they love it.
