RFK is taking submissions for people to be in charge of federal agencies. We could potentially put AK guy in charge of ATF.
His first act would be to dissolve it lol.
Honestly, he needs to dissolve just the the F in ATF and go after the T. Kill cigarettes that have any additives in them and allow people to buy and grow straight tobacco again.
Or move them back to the treasury department and change the agency focus from looking for reasons to shoot dogs to quickly processing paperwork to sell as many NFA stamps as they can. Then use those funds to revitalize the Civilian Marksmanship Program and issue a new ruling that military surplus rifles converted to semiauto are not legally machineguns so the CMP can start selling us cheap M14s and M16A1s.
NFA stamps shouldn't even be a thing. The NFA and it's automatics registry (not ban, because it isn't) are unconstitutional.
While he can't do that, what he actually can do is slow-walk or outright pause practically everything. A great example is when Texas passed the Texas Suppressor Freedom Bill, which states that suppressors designed, manufactured, and sold in Texas only to Texas citizens made with Texas materials must be exempt from the Interstate Commerce Clause, and thus outside of the ATFs purview. The ATF immediately sued of course, and last update was that a Federal judge tossed the case as there was no injured party yet.
A based ATF director could order his agency to simply concede all suits brought against the NFA, GCA, etc. ATF lawyers walk into the court and on day 1 just tell the judge "we concede the case to Texas (or whoever) and ask that you rule in their favor. We will offer no testimony, evidence, or documentation against any of the plaintiff's claims".
Open season on any provision of federal gun control for any state AG to make a case, with the assumption that the feds won't even try to argue in their own favor.
It might sound good but there are too many mentally deranged people and terrorists on the streets, we need a proper clean up first and put them in mental institutions first.
I mean if it's easier for normal citizens to carry firearms everyday, that problem may solve itself...
I’d rather not have mental institutions come back. We saw how corrupt even the medical systems were during COVID. They would just use them as interment camps for anyone who wants to buy a gun.
I don't think ya'll understand how big of a deal this would be.
BATF has a 50 year long history of making shit up as they go when it comes to prosecuting people for NFA violations. All sort of legal standards they use to prosecute people are entire fabrications concocted out of thin air. Constructive possession is one example, they will charge people with unlicensed possession of a suppressor just for having all the parts to make one, whether you were going to put one together or not. There is no legal language anywhere in the NFA that allows this, but it is a BATF regulation anyway, because they get to make shit up as they go along.
Another thing is there is no written standard their Technical branch follows when it comes to classifying something a firearm or not, or an NFA item or not. It is all professional opinion. In fact, the BATF intentionally doesn't make a written manual for the Technical branch because then their Technical branch inspectors have to follow it.
Putting someone like Brandon in as Director puts a stop to all of this shit. You see, Brandon is a licensed 07 FFL, who can manufacture, not just deal, and he knows lots of other people who also are FFLs.
The SES and GS15 level leadership in the agency will absolutely hate him as Director, I mean with intensity we really cannot understand, and will likely do everything they can to sabotage him.
And all of that is by design.
When an individual or a manufacturer can a get a "private ruling" that only applies to them and no one else so it can't be used as precedent setting evidence in any other case with the exact same circumstances, they do not operate under the rule of law as they do not have any internal rules to follow to begin with.
Their guidance on almost any issue is arbitrary, deliberately vague and many times totally lacking any logical consistency whatsoever.
They do whatever the fuck they want to do to whoever they feel deserves to be made an example of.
The agency is totally politically captured by the left, and is run and staffed with those whose real agenda is banning all firerams.
How hard would SESs and GS15s be replaced with other guntubbers?
SES-level civil service positions are technically approved by Congress. Anything above GS-13 or so is nigh impossible to get rid of, unless they do something dumb like committing a felony on the job or wearing a MAGA hat to work.
I mean, he's selected Thomas Massie for USDA head and Joel Salatin for chief of the USDA advisory council. The theme seems to be "burn this motherfucker down, boys."
Why does he keep doing this? Is Trump fucking retarded? He only has the possibility of the slimmest of majorities in the House, removing any republicans from the house is just about the stupidest thing he can do.
Currently, at 270towin, it says the Republicans have 216 out of 218 needed for control. All the seven remaining tossup seats are in California and other dem strongholds.
The problem is, there's only a small pool of talent when you're looking for people who are based, not idiots, and with knowledge of the political system. I would have preferred to see Salatin as USDA chief, but he has zero political experience, zero filter, and his personality towards leftists is more abrasive than 80 grit sandpaper.
The House is more important than the USDA. It's more important than any agency except perhaps ICE and DoD.
Let's go Brandon! But, like, unironically.
If Trump actually does this we might really get "the ATF should be a duty free strip mall" joke turned into reality.
Hell yes.
Don't make me overdose on hopium.
Him being made director of the ATF would really make the context of his recent Ted Kaczynski's homemade gun video even more hilarious, lol.
AAC Honey Badgers all around!
Voted.
