I used to buy cheap phones and honestly they at least felt a little more rugged. They were all plastic but the screen never broke no matter how many times I dropped them. One month after buying my first fancy expensive phone the screen cracked. Why do they make them out of glass?
I did learn to drop my phones less often now.
A lot are made from glass now because of the wireless charging solutions so many companies offer.
edit: sorry I just realized you meant the screen and not the backs.
Both! My $300 Motorola fell out of my pocket while on vacation (sweatpants with small pockets) and the screen AND back glass shattered. I don't know if that phone could wireless charge but that's interesting.
