How are they excusing this? Saying it was a test run?
“Those numbers should not have appeared on the screen, and it was an error by WNEP that they did,” the broadcast station reportedly told Daily Mail about the ‘glitch.’ The broadcaster clarified the slip-up that caused a stir on social media, explaining that the numbers aired were purely “randomly generated test results” with no connection to actual vote counts.
“The numbers seen on the screen were randomly generated test results sent out to help news organizations make sure their equipment is working properly in advance of election night,” they added.
I don't believe them. If you're going to do that, you specifically do not want to use randomly generated results. Send everyone results of a 69,420-69,420 tie instead, so there's no way that they can be mistaken for a genuine result.
It's within 10% of the 2020 election voter turnout as well, at least make it some preposterously high number that is literally impossible in the the state.
Yeah, if the split is 69 Kamala 420 Trump with 9001% of precincts reporting there's no doubt that that shit is a test run that shouldn't have shown up. Or even if they don't wanna meme it up, just 123,456 and 987,654 or flat numbers like 300,000 to 400,000 would make it crystal clear. But nah, that shit's a fucked up dry run that shows why they need the practice runs to begin with. They're aggressively incompetent.
Tbf they're journalists not engineers.
I’m sure they will be shocked when people are skeptical
It’s like a toddler that just learned to lie. They stupidly think they are getting away with it.
A lot of people want to believe.
This word being used that is almost never used to describe an error in software. "Glitch" implies it was not the fault of the programmer, which is BS because a program does exactly what you tell it to.
Terrible CYA. Either the results weren't randomly generated and whoever made the results had a bias that they baked into the generation, or they had ChatGPT produce the data with some prompt of "produce mock 2024 presidential election results for Pennsylvania similar to the 2020 election" and fed it that. There was clearly no checking of the data before sending out or some asshole went "this is fine", or the one producing the results is also the person sending it out.
