Nothing is safe. They're so bankrupt for ideas they're eyeing those books, but not out of respect. They'll steal a character or loosely adapt an arc and pack it with so much baggage it will be ruined not only by what Disney does, but by soyboy modern fans who are now fully committed to how awesome that character is, but only the modern version played by either a Hollywood machine celebrity or complete unknown diversity hire, which ends up nothing like the source book.
Did they do Thrawn any justice? Or did they just pluck him from the book and just go their own way? Honest question. Didn't watch it.
I love how Critical Drinker tore apart his character. Something like "Every time he lost a battle he acted like it was on purpose for a greater plan or something."
Gotta love how they ran off hardcore fans like myself. I faithfully bought EU books and watched 1-6 over and over.
We still have those books and movies. They get to have a string of disasters that end up being mocked and further highlighting their ineptitude.

They kill Thrawn by making him ride space whales.
So, no.
For the most charitable answer, Thrawn in the Disney series was a genius as written by a moron.

Regardless of what they do, the original works remain and can be easily downloaded for free.
Absolutely. I still get those books at the used book store.
