I hate the idea that I should try to live and let live with people who think the Stazi was a good start. With people who think it's right and proper to "cancel" me for not taking a poisonous fake vaccine. With people who would like to put a tax on white skin.
I don't care if they're blood. They stopped being family when they started being leftists.
I hate the idea that we should ostracize family members due to their opinions
Good news, they'll do it for you when they ostracise you first for the same reason, if they haven't already done so or started mentally prepping to do so.
There is a large valley that people jump over to keep their black and white thinking. Which is between "just accept them they are family" and "cut them the fuck out completely," to absolve them of any responsibility to help pull them out of the madness.
And most importantly, absolving themselves of failing to protect their own family from the cult thinking. Because if they had paid attention earlier, I'd wager it never would have gotten this bad. Maybe that time was 10+ years ago, but there was a time.
There is a point where you cannot save someone, family or not, but denying the Left a footsoldier in your own clan should always be the first thought in your mind rather than "how can I do nothing about this?"
My sibling works at a university. Everyone she works with, everyone responsible for her promotion (or lack of) is a Neo-Marxist. Her entire working career has been there. Her mentor received a lifetime achievement award for contributions to the field of Critical Theory, which is literal Neo-Marxist theory.
They may not be very Neo-Marxist, but that is like saying they are the least retarded kid on the short bus.
Probably before she made the decision to enter a career where her entire life would require sucking up to and being surrounded by Marxists. Unless she was of course that much older than you that you were too young to do so.
Its certainly not always a possible course but, as I said, its a large valley of consideration between the extreme position of "said woke shit, never speaking to them again they are lost forever."

That being said, that strategy hasn't really been working out for us.
Some people really are too far gone, too useful, too idiotic.

Sic semper sinister.

When should I have stepped in?

So, while she was away at University, I should have persuaded her to give up her studies and take up a trade?
Or should I have pre-empted her career right out of high school?
Did you know what "woke" was right out of high school? I didn't.

Our strategy has many problems, but I don't think "not ostracizing family members" is the cause of its lack of success.
If someone is insufferable, cut him off. If someone is dangerous, cut him off. Other than that, there is no harm in being an anchor of sanity.
