I grew up poor and trashy enough that I'd never have quiet in my house ever, all hours people coming and going and doing something probably criminal.
The moment I escaped that, I understood that it was literally making me insane without me knowing because of how consistent and slow boiling it was.
Its why they never want anyone to escape the Hood, or the Mexicans never want anyone to ever move out of the 12 person enclave. Because the moment they do, they'll realize how miserable it was and never turn back. Better to keep everyone together suffering for nothing to keep that crab in the bucket.
Cities have been driving humans insane for generations, and they don't even understand that they are being driven nuts by constant crowding - they just say it's a good thing and demand MORE crowding.
The Mouse Utopia experiments are what is happening now.
Mine was in a quiet rural area, that unfortunately my family was the one to bring the noise and crime to, and even our worse "hoods" would barely qualify as a city.
While crowding is certainly the problem, its not the only cause of such behavior. Poverty induced boredom, drugs, and the retarded culture of multiple minority groups can bring it just as much.
The mouse "utopia" experiment was designed to make the mice go insane. He curated the enclosure to be cumbersome and cause issues for the mice.
It was never supposed to be a utopia and it was always to see how bad it could get for trapped mice in a purpose build hell hole.
But ignorant people think "look they gave mice everything and they still went crazy because of how close they were to each other."
Just a complete misrepresentation of the experiment.
Do you have evidence to back up this claim? Because Calhoun himself made no mention of this in the articles I have read, instead describing it as a "mortality-inhibiting environment for mice" where every need was catered for.
I'd be wary of any sauce from a Dildo man.
Read his entire case study, he LITERALLY EXPLAINS HIMSELF HOW HE DESIGNED TRAVEL TO BE CUMBERSOME.
there every need was only food and water.
You literally have to know NOTHING about this study to not know what I'm talking about....
Sounds like he made it as close to reality as he could.
Utopia here is a sarcastic moniker to our Urban utopia.
Fucking retards on here, really a 4x4 foot enclosure is suitable for hundreds of mice? With areas for feeding only having one entrance?
THATS AS CLOSE TO REALITY as possible? That is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard on here.
Spiral tubs to walk through were only one at a time could fit so they constantly get stuck or backtrack. that's just the tip of his design.
You are basically proving you know nothing about the case study watch one documentary on it and stop HEADLINE READING.
OK, but he DID show that overpopulation is more than just "muh starvation", as the UNICEFtards also like to say. And the signs of that overpopulation include infanticide, failure to breed, and rampant faggotry.
But to get that far we would have to run out of space on the planet.
You can theoretically fit the ENTIRE population of the world in just Rhode Island alone.
It would take thousands of years to run out of space and that's not likely due to the eb and flow of the population blooms.
I remember hating my family growing up because they always made random noise and hated closing their door, it made studying and work a pain. Like yelling at the TV or whistling for hours.
Same situation as me growing up, and even then I had the exact same realization of this author (only without the "and that's a good thing" coat of paint) - that the ethnic-minority idea of a fun neighborhood is garish multi-colored apartment blocks bouncing side to side to the beat of constant noise and drama. Part and parcel of living in the big city!
Middle-class neighborhoods in Mexico (for what you can call middle class there) have constant music blaring into the streets and that's the way they like it, and they wonder why successful people who value peace and quiet don't want to stay there. IIRC The Bell Curve describes the rich vs poor divide there pretty well and how demographics are making it a reality in America.
good on you for getting out of that hellish environment. hope things are going well for you now.
Shit goes so well these days its almost paranoia inducing. The Struggle, as they call it, always pays off if you avoid temptations.
I don't really have the poor experience, but my house was crazy at all times because my parents had too many children. I mean for my taste. They liked all of us.
Big families have a lot of benefits, but it needs to be with an equally large place to put them and enough help to compensate for them.
Its where a lot of cultures like the Latino fail, where they just shove 6 kids into a 3 bedroom house that also has the grandparents and likely others and consider it wonderful because the family is so "close." When all it does is create a timebomb full of codependence that can never properly articulate a lot of their problems.
There is a lot of talk these days about work/life balance, because of work from home getting bigger, but not nearly enough about a person's, especially a growing child's, chaos versus peace balance in the home.
Let no one ever accuse my parents of not buying big enough homes. My Dad's made and lost fortunes in his life. That's why I'm an arch-conservative -- I enjoy the quiet life. I'd like to have more money, and bigger houses. But I'd rather have more land around fewer people. I'm not sure more money than I can earn with my hands is worth the drama of dealing with other people.
