If they can make the Yuuzhan Vong not REALLY evil, but misunderstood and some kind of a refugee allegory, they’ll do it. In fact, we should encourage them to do it.
I recently read the NJO so maybe by comparison to what Star Wars has become it isn’t so bad. It’s definitely a darker tone. If I was adapting something I’d do thrawn trilogy and an animated Crispin solo trilogy. They should’ve used the Kenobi book as a blueprint. Also the Jedi students or Jaina would make for a good adaptation. I liked NJO but I’m more lenient now on older stuff considering the modern day. I was getting ready for the military when it came out so I remember the debates in the forums. I enjoy the EU for the most part. What would you adapt?
The Thrawn trilogy would make a perfect sequel trilogy, certainly compared to the one we got. YJK would make a good kids or YA TV series, and there's enough material in those books to keep it going for several seasons. Those books were the pinnacle of the EU as far as I'm concerned.
The Yuuzhan Vong ruined everything. They were in every way an expression of proto-woke Millennial nihilism, and they didn't belong in Star Wars.
Like I said, I was already pissed at Disney when I read it so everything is skewed for me but I can definitely see what you mean. Hated Anakin’s death. But Disney was stupid to not have Luke’s Jedi academy in the sequels. But of course he can’t because he is white male.
In terms of other EU stuff to adapt, Brian Daley did three stand-alone novels back in the 90s about some of Han Solo's adventures before he met Luke and Obi-Wan. It would have been great to see those adapted instead of the Solo film they did do.
Tales From Jabba's Palace would have been a fun TV series as well. Some great material in that.
To be fair, if they faithfully adapt the Yuuzhan Vong, it will tank Star Wars into negative billions.
The EU was great for the first 20 years. Then it dug it's own grave.
