Because of two factors:
They USED to be more 'right wing' in that when they were started they were focused on capital gain and status above all until the old instructors retired and were replaced by the more commie leaning ideological replacements.
They're projecting again because they don't like to pin failure on their ideology.

You have to go further back than that, commie infiltration was happening pre WW2 if I remember right.
Right, that's why McCarthyism happened, because there was actual evidence of it happening and he wanted to stop it before it was too late.
It certainly accelerated after WW2, though. Incidentally, this is also when jew quotas were removed and jews sort of came out of the closet. So much is happening at that time that it can be hard to link cause and effect.
I haven't seen Saving Private Ryan, but apparently you can see from them calling a Drill sergeant a "jew bastard" at the beginning that anti-jew feeling was pretty open at the beginning of WW2. It was, anyways.
From then on the feelings about jews are more suppressed. Civil Rights was supposed to be about the blacks, but the same silencing of people's feeling about blacks was applied to their thoughts towards jews. Even though black and jew are not parallel concepts at all. "Black" cannot be a religion. And jew is a much narrower ethnic group than black. Worldwide, there are many black ethnic groups. Whether to consider American blacks as a monolithic ethnic group is a question.
