You think there isn't any african myths or stories that are passed down through word of mouth today that they could use? you think there weren't records of sub-Saharan Africa made by others before? of course there was.
There may not be anything on the african tribes but you could take a look at the kingdoms and shit like that that existed and it would be somewhat interesting if they did proper research into it. That's the problem though with these devs, they are the laziest fuckers imaginable. The most they'll do is look at some wikipedia page and that's that.
That would require written records. I don't believe any African tribe developed an alphabet, much less books.
