Is English your first language? It's my third and even I understand what "they were sorry" means.
Hint: it means they regret challenging Israel, not that they apologized.
They apologized to Iran for sacrificing their soldiers in the clash. It was a mistranslation, because they sure kept attacking Israel, including in oct 7th.
