Felix Yongbok Lee, a member of the Korean boy band, Stray Kids, has been facing backlash and was recently made to apologize for enjoying Coca-Cola during a livestream on social media.
During a livestream on March 17, Felix was eating chicken and answering questions from fans. After a viewer asked, “Do you want something to drink?” Felix showed Coca-Cola and had a drink from it. Several fans suddenly demanded an apology, asking, “Why are you drinking Coca-Cola?”
As it turns out, many consumers in South Korea and other countries have been boycotting Coca-Cola and other products because they continue to operate in Russia following the Ukraine invasion.
In response to the criticism, Felix apologized, saying, “I’m sorry for showing the Coca-Cola bottle; I didn’t mean to hurt anyone, but I’ll be more careful next time. I’m really sorry.”
This is not the first time a K-pop idol had to apologize to fans like Felix. In January, ENHYPEN’s Jake came under fire for drinking Starbucks coffee during a live broadcast. LE SERAFIM’s Huh Yun-jin also apologized because of a Starbucks logo that was visible in a photo posted on social media.
Fans who lashed out at Jake and Huh Yun-jin have been critical of Starbucks, which is labeled as a “pro-Israel company.”
I hate them because they had an anti-whites campaign. Sadly, I don't drink soda so can't boycott them.
