Is there any non western nation that endlessly wrings its hands about its past? If only they taught global history and showed whether on a small or large scale everything they whine about in the history of the western world was done/commonplace across the globe
I'm willing to bet that the Arabs are proud of their conquests.
I used to live in Cairo. They 100% are proud of their past conquest and subjugation of various peoples.
Ironically, Egypt was conquered and subjugated by the Arabs, and in fact, there have been very few times in the past 2500 years when Egypt was not a subjugated colony.
The Egyptians who live there now very much insist that they are the same people as the ancient Egyptians, and claim all of the glories of that culture as their own.
This includes everything between now and then as well. They love Mohammed Ali, for example, because he was a strong ruler of Egypt. Nevermind the fact that he was actually Albanian.
This also extends to the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium in Sudan in the 19th and 20th centuries. There is a huge map on the wall in their Foregin Office showing everything Egypt used to "rule," and all of Sudan is included in this. Because they were co-rulers of it with the UK, and in their heads, they were totally 50% of why that was ever a thing. 🙄
At the same time, they strongly identify as Arabs, and are very prideful of that, as well.
Most nations teach their history to instill attachment and pride into it. They don't spend years painting themselves as opressors and everyone else their victims.
Only the systems ( education and media ) in White nations do this.
What started to open my eyes was when I learned that Africans sold slaves to the Europeans and then learn about slavery all over the world, but according to the school system every other country was a utopia or native Americans were living in paradise
Only in western White nations.
The commie countries don't wring their hands about the past they just straight up lie about it all to your face.
They lie more about their body counts than an onlyfans girl.
As an aside, Stalin was a fan of Ivan the Terrible (which is a mistranslation of a Russian world that means amazing, wonderful, terrible). He saw, or at least presented, his purges as replicating what Ivan's oprichniki did to the boyars in nominal defense of the population.
More like Ivan the Terrific, amirite?
Ironically, terrible, terrific, formidable originally meant about the same thing. Funny how language evolves.
ivan the infamous, then?
The Japanese might lament how the old empire treated its subjects as completely disposable. But that's about all I can think of.
Or maybe I'm just getting this feeling after having watched Godzilla Minus One. Who knows.
Not supporting the Japanese empire, but is that any different from the American empire?
It may be able to get away with less (which is good), but I don't for a moment believe that they regard their subjects in America (let alone the unfortunate inhabitants of their vassals in Europe) as anything but disposable.
You can either control the population by myth-making about the past, which is what non-Western countries generally do, or by imposing a guilt complex on the population in order to prevent the population from ever challenging the government, most successfully implemented in Germany.
I think the second form is far better at controlling the population, because in the first form, people still have some self-respect, while in the second it's completely beaten out of them. Ergo, the increasing move of regimes towards the second form.
