What you hear in 'Murica about "Paris" is very likely actually outside the city-proper, which has some dodgy areas but is relatively safe to extremely safe (the area around the Seine) even at night.
You have very little reason to travel to the suburbs, except for the great cathedral at Saint Denis (which is in one of the worst areas, if not the worst), but you just take the subway, get out very close to the cathedral, visit, and then go back.
(I'm not encouraging anyone to go to Paris, just pointing out.)
I have a friend at work, he is from France, he absolutely hates Paris, he now moved in some rural place a couple of hours drive from Carcassonne. Oddly enough he is not French but Moroccan, still hates it.
I also have 2 friends that moved for a while in Paris, only thing they talked about was literal shit, rats and how bad it was. I don't know where in Paris, all I know that they could see the Eiffel Tower from one of the windows if you stretch your neck.
Also the yellow vest protests did not look very French.

Generally, the attitude of Europeans towards capital cities is the same as those of Americans towards San Francisco. Crime is higher and it's inhabited by out of touch scumbags.

Quality of life doesn't discriminate. Unless you need the stuff that's in a big city, stay away.
I'm not saying that Paris (or any other place) is 'great', and like almost everywhere in Europe it has declined a lot over the past 20 years, just that it's not the Boschian hellscape that Americans imagine it to be.
Paris syndrome is Japanese tourists having an extreme shock to the point of feeling physically ill when witnessing shit-and-piss covered non-White Paris when they expected a gorgeous French city.
Paris and France had a huge aura of prestige in Japan : the French had a repulation for their architecture, food, culture and fashion. The must-go place to visit if you are going to spend your money on traveling to a foreing country.
Now Japanese arrive in Paris and see the place overcroweded by blacks and brown muslims, the streets smell like piss ( non-Whites piss in the streets ), the ''urban youths'' try to scam or steal from them.
Their expensive dream trip is a fucking nightmare. Compared to Japan, they are in a relatively high danger in Paris. They hate it.
Unfortunately that now excludes Paris and London
Did he stutter?

Look up "Paris syndrome." It's not just 'Murica that thinks Paris is a shithole.
I assume you mean the "reality vs imagined" videos? It's just like any other large European city.
