Renting possessions, the convenience before the compulsory. (twitter.com)

Its funny how they destroyed something incredibly basic that humans dealt with thousands of years ago, and then reinvented it stupider.

Because borrowing your neighbor's tools is one of the most common benefits of having a good community, and its how people used to be able to afford more things by not having to buy every single thing on their own:

I don't need a level, Levi down the block has one and because we live in a good, high trust society I can walk in his open garage any time and borrow it without issue

But now its with a bunch of people you can't trust, you don't like or want to talk to, and it costs on top of it.

I've been browsing Tulu's (the rental kiosk in the tweet) website. The only real tool it rents out is a power drill, which is probably all a big-city pod person needs to assemble their IKEA furniture. Everything else they can bitch at their landlord to fix.

The real question is why would you rent a waffle maker or an air fryer? How clean is it going to be when it's your turn?

Renting cooking utensils? That's fucking disgusting lol

A scam. "You fuck it up, you own it," likely at twice the original cost. It's like a version of "rent-to-own" which of course is designed to fuck over poor people by charging them double the price for furniture and appliances if anyone decides to rent something for the full term.

Walmart sells air fryers for like 20 bucks. These people cannot function on store brands though.

robot floor cleaner

Am I the only one fine with using a mop and broom every week or two to clean my floors?

Also, >renting a Dyson vacuum. Enjoy your bedbugs and STIs.

I hadn't even thought of that, regarding the Dyson! They're great vacuums, but yea, definitely not something to want to rent, as opposed to own!

Even if you have a maid service coming once a week to clean house, you ALWAYS want to use your personal vacuum cleaner and not the maid's. You don't know what critters she might have picked up from other homes.

Same with lawn service if you can. Nothing like having the entire neighborhoods weeds growing in your yard

It’ll likely be black people but the building will eat the costs since it’s NYC and they don’t wanna be called racists

Yeah, you know what? I would enjoy depending on a printer that 200 other people would use. I really would.

I looked at Tulu's website, and you don't actually rent the printer out. It's no different from an office center where you pay per page printed. At least they're not dumb enough to let you carry the printer out.

You mean Tulu has more sense than the governor of California? No, I mean half the complex sitting in the printer queue.

Imagine how happy she’ll be when they install an insect bar in her building.

“I’ve been forced to live like a bug person in a 4 square foot apartment at a premium price, thank you large corporation for allowing me to perform basic human functions since my inadequate living space and constant salary sinkhole doesn’t allow me to!”

Printers are already rented. The ink costs more than the printer itself and although I can't find immediate examples, I'm sure I've read of people's printers refusing to work because they didn't use the proprietary ink type.

But how the fuck do you not have space for one, even in a small apartment? Even if your workspace won't allow for it, they're easy to store.

Heh, how long do you think it will be before apartments come with DLC to unlock more space?

Inkjet printers have the issue of ink drying up and clogging the spray nozzles. Rule of thumb is to print at least once a week simply for maintenance and to keep everything lubricated. A laser printer doesn't have this problem, but it's bigger both in size and upfront investment.

If you only print occasionally, I can actually see the appeal of having a central "office center" printer, even without apartment space limitations.

Back before libraries became troon hunting grounds and anti-white propaganda centers, everyone knew you could easily go in there and pay to get stuff printed off if you needed.

All it took was a shiny advert and an app in the same eye-line as her Instagram for her to start gushing about how revolutionary the concept of "go to another building to get your stuff printed" is. Likewise tool rentals used to extend to renting hoovers before all the independent stores got choked the fuck out by big finance. Maybe some places even still offer them, IDK.

I swear overpaid millennial women are a marketer's wet dream, all it takes is 5 fucking seconds of flashing lights and an empty promise and half of them are clamouring "gimmie shiny new now!". No wonder they're doing 80+% of discretionary spending in most households, they have no discretion.
