Dang, what's Denzel doing being a part to blackwashing? He's been pretty sane in the past.

Also...

However, Tunisian culture minister Hayet Ketat-Guermazi had a different, more pragmatic take on the matter.

“It’s fiction. It is their [Netflix‘s] right to do what they want,” she responded...

Huh.

Leave it to the woman to be woke, fiction based on historical facts is still based on real people who had real appearances.

Fat chance. Why tf would they pay to fly all those people and all that equipment to fucking Tunisia when they can get the same result right where they are.

You didn't include the the most important part.

Perhaps. But I included the funniest part.

Fucking called it weeks ago. These Mediterranean, more Islamic leaning states HATE being referred to as African or black and blackwashing their great ancestors is just gonna cause fights.

You think modern Tunisians have ancient Carthaginian blood?

Highly doubt that but they'd rather trace their ancestry down to Carthaginians than anything African. This just shows how much on insult they see it by this blackwashing.

I used to joke that I’m against all race swapping but will give a pass to Denzel since he is one of my favorite actors. I’m so sick of race/gender swapping at this point that him being one of my favorites won’t make me watch it. When Equalizer came out I was aware of the old show but that was before everything was a race or gender swap. Honestly I’d say have Denzel play Mansa Musa. I’d love an in depth mini series about his empire as well as his practice of slavery and land conquest. Would be nice to see an exploration of the cruelty/brutality of non-western slavery. Maybe could open up some eyes as well. Maybe

Mamas musa would be interesting, but then they wouldn’t be intentionally blackwashing history, and that’s really all they want

Yea, I know and if they did ever do a movie or show about Mansa Musa I’m sure they wouldn’t have anything about slavery (or somehow tie it to Europeans who weren’t even there at the time)

Mansa musa is made up or at least greatly exaggerated. Put it this way, his greatest accomplishment is the construction of the great mosque in timbuktu... look a this thing and say that the richest person to ever live was responsible...

Mansa musa is just more jogger cope.

I’ve heard he existed but everything else I’ve heard has been recent so for obvious reasons I’m very wary of modern day historians. My point was since they have rehashed to death western slavery it would be interesting if someone had the guts to show an African ruler who was big in the slave trade. Or the Ottoman Empire. Or the enslavement of whites.

Kaleb of Aksum would be a better choice, unfortunately the accomplishment which made him the most based black man to ever live is also the reason why Hollywood won't touch his story with a 40 ft pole.

A movie where Denzel plays a wise general and leader of men would be fun because he's a great actor but you can't cast him as Hannibal any more than you could cast him as Scipio Africanus.

It used to be pretty standard in Hollywood for big name stars to play roles of other races. For example, Yul Brenner played the king of Siam in The King and I. John Wayne played Ghengis Khan and looked absolutely ridiculous doing it.

I'd be curious to know if this was agenda driven race swapping or simply a continuation of that practice. Denzel Washington is a pretty popular actor, and they could be shoehorning him into the role for the draw his participation will bring more than anything else.

You would be right to say they wouldn't do it with a white star anymore though, so there's still the race aspect going on in that double standard.

Everything Hollywood does nowadays is agenda driven

Plus add in the fact that race swapping is so over done now.

On this Scipio laughed, and added, “What would you have said if you had conquered me? ”

“Then I would have placed Hannibal not only before Alexander and Pyrrhus, but before all other commanders. Ha HA!!! King Kong ain't got SHIT on me!!!”
