That's what makes the constant talk of how "dystopian" the UK is so difficult to swallow. The law enforcement is just so stupidly corrupt and openly self serving everytime they open their mouth its impossible to take seriously. Like its a bad satire.

It reminds me of the serial killer that Ceausescu couldn't find. The Romanian police were so inept at investigating actual crimes, rather than political crimes they struggled very hard to find the murderer initially. Eventually they found someone, went back to their old habits, railroaded him, and executed him.
Except it was the wrong guy. We know because the murders continued. The police internally knew that the serial killer was still on the loose, but instead of admitting they fucked up; they censored all reporting on the subject and let him continue killing rather than admit their screw up.
He eventually went inactive. No one ever solved the cases because no one ever investigated them. IIRC, he stopped after between 30-50 people that we know about.
The UK police's support for the systematic rape of children should have been evidence enough that some police deserve to be abolished.
It's the same in the US. Only 50% of murders are cleared, but everyone who was in DC on J6 gets followed around by air marshals. The FBI sets up so many people, that we know of, that they're probably doing more to promote terrorism than fight it.
Oh and pipe bomb guy is still free. Osama was in Pakistan the whole time. Our government lies a lot, and people have little faith in it.
