Think about it, if you're part of a fed op, you're going to have a believable backstory that neither the prison guards or the inmates are going to get suspicious of and won't flag even any databases. It's the equivalent of an undercover cop just more extreme like a sleeper agent.
This guy is probably going to mysteriously disappear just like how they got the January 6th confirmed glowies to disappear off the radar without any charges while normal people got the boot on their neck even though the glowies were the instigators. I wouldn't even be shocked if they had him near the cop the entire time on purpose.
Its often far too obvious if the Feds just get you off completely. Most of the time what they offer is lesser sentences, nicer prisons, and general things like that.
Usually while threatening that if you don't snitch for them they will do the opposite and make sure you get every charge possible maxed out and sent to the worst shit hole possible.
Also the feds usually own you for life because they know there are a few crimes you probably never confessed to and part of most deals you need to tell them everything you did.
So being a Fed snitch didn't stop him from going to prison. Why is he still carrying out orders?

Preferential treatment. It can be quite cozy on the inside if you follow orders
