they really should have patted him down before they revived him, or maybe while they were doing it. I wonder if there's a law against that?
Probably has more to do with the fact that it was considered a life or death situation, so immediate action would have been required, that's my guess at least.
for sure, and that kind of situation the medical care is definitely front of mind. I kind of just hope that A: responders are allowed to pat down and remove weapons from people there helping to avoid another situation like this, and B: responders in the future adopted this practice.
If you're unconscious,, first responders can remove anything from your person they think helps with their job, and that would certainly include securing a gun. And they can certainly refuse to treat anyone who is conscious and armed and refusing to give up that gun. They probably thought it was the cops' job to secure the weapon.
But yeah this is why first responders shouldn't be dealing with scumbags. I dunno how you tell, but there needs to be discretion.
