Germany has become more of a net loss in Europe than a gain, from the relentless pushing for the EU to have more influence and power, to the 'we need to let them in' of the migrants.
They're an example of what happens when you are ashamed to have a national identity that exists more than a flag and on paper.
I will actually agree with you about the fear of cultural pride. The problem is I see it outside of Germany. Icelandic people don't realize how much of their culture is dying because they only know icelanders. They don't realize most of their kids can't read the books or k ow the traditions being passed on. I've seen the same in the other Scandinavian countries. It really is a sad thing, because I know this is how Native Hawaiian died.
