Seriously. Why listen to random online mouthbreathing drivel at all. I mute in every game, random strangers on online games have not earned the right for me to listen to their trash talk.
I don't want to hear some "communication iz important" either. With random people it's nothing but nothing-knowing know-it-alls barking out orders and screaming.
I've muted a huge number of players in games over the years. Not because they were being rude or stupid, either. A lot of them were just retards with over sensitive mics and dogs barking or babies crying. A huge number of the players I've blocked in TF2 were just spamming music and being loud for no good reason.
Don't know how I forgot to mention the people with overly loud keyboards or the dorks who insist on chewing with their mouths open on an open mic. Should've added noisy air conditioners or fans to that list too, because I've also muted a fair number of those ones as well.
One exception to this would be platoon-chat in Planetside 2. But only if you're in an organized platoon. Otherwise though you can get by with other options in most games, or just play with a small group of friends.

I always mute the ones who sound like they are eating or making those weird chewing noises. Like a click click click.
