Honestly, I think incompetence is certainly a possibility with the regime, but that level of maliciousness, and this push for war, seems like it could be intentional.
Our government and staff are full to the brim with foreign spies and sympathizers. This could have been someone like Iran, China, or even Israel. Imagine if American Special Forces were hunted down in Israel by either Hamas or "Hamas."
I would like to think that this level of incompetence could only be deliberate, but I don't see what they'd have to gain from it.
