And I'm saying it's a bad precedent, and doesn't work in our favor. This gets the government's foot in the door on internet ID laws, and will be turned against us next.

Also, you say that's not the argument you're making, but it seems to be, because then you do it again; say what the leftists are doing, so the right should do things too. Which might be a fine stance but, again, my issue is I don't agree this is a good thing, and I think it will hurt us by its existence. Internet ID laws are bad, even if they scream "think of the children." When you think about it, it's a very leftist argument in that respect; appeals to emotion above practicality or freedom or legality.

So by all means, tell me why we should once again never fight back.

Never said that. I said let's not make it easier for the government to oppress us all. We're already far enough down the cyberpunk dystopia timeline, let's not make it worse.

What exactly is it you think will be "turned on us next"? Do you even realize the extent of the tyranny we find ourselves under?

What I'm saying is that the response to leftist censorship and oppression should not in fact be making porn legal for children, while striking a noble pose and declaring how fair you think you are.

What about that do you object to, precisely? To me it seems like you're volunteering to let them have their own cake and eat yours too.

Do you even realize the extent of the tyranny we find ourselves under?

Again, you seem to be arguing since things are already tyrannical we should make things more tyrannical, just in a potentially slightly different direction. You say that's not your argument, but then you keep bringing it up.

What about that do you object to, precisely?

I'm not sure how many times I have to say it: Gubmint doesn't get to ask me for ID to go to sites on the internet, and they can fuck right off with that nonsense. Parents should look after their children, and we should be able to go to any website we want without having to ID ourselves.

To expand even further: If they can ask for proof to access media, why couldn't they ask for ID for other things, like "terrorist" content, or even just gun content. If they succeed in pushing gun purchasing age to 21 like they want, or 25...how long before those same internet ID laws end up barring legal adults from accessing 2nd Amendment content online, for example?

Not sure why I have to keep repeating myself, but the government being able to ask for ID to access the internet is a ridiculously slippery slope.

It's not more tyrannical. That's the point. You already don't have free speech. You can't criticize any of the sacred cows of the left in public or you get fired, potentially imprisoned and possibly murdered. You can't buy a gun or ammo or even a damn knife these days without showing an ID.

Let's look at the outcomes of what you're advocating for.

You still don't have free speech. Nor will you, because you aren't actually trying to stop the people tyrannizing you. In fact you're fighting the only people who are.

Perverts get free reign.

Seems like a double loss to me.

You already don't have free speech.

Stop making this stupid argument.

You can't criticize any of the sacred cows of the left in public or you get fired, potentially imprisoned and possibly murdered.

Not by the government, at least not directly. Again, we shouldn't make it easier for them.

You can't buy a gun or ammo or even a damn knife these days without showing an ID.

Hell yes you can, at least for ammo and knives.

Let's look at the outcomes of what you're advocating for.

I'm advocating for not giving the government control over what websites I can access. That's it.

You still don't have free speech.

Again, stop with this argument, it's beyond pointless.

...you aren't actually trying to stop the people tyrannizing you. In fact you're fighting the only people who are.

I really don't see how letting the government have control over all the information I access is them stopping their tyranny of me, but you do you.

Do you even realize the extent of the tyranny we find ourselves under?

"So of course, you should volunteer to accelerate and make that tyranny easier to enforce!"

Porn isn't legal for kids. You have to prove your age to buy it anywhere else, why is the internet exempt?

It's not. I assume, at least...never bought porn, but I doubt there's an internet exception. You would have to provide ID if you buy porn, just like if you buy a gun online. This is about accessing websites, which is much scarier to give government control over.

Exactly the point. Except now it's defacto legal.

Except one of those things should be happening and the other irrevocably corrupts and degenerates the youth in a blatant long march campaign. Otherwise sure.
