It was not being shown in my local cinemas when last I checked. I'll go watch it if it is, if only to piss Them off.
You could buy a ticket online that you won't use. Actually I think I'll do that myself right now.
We have basically a monopoly here in Sweden, the mark up is horrendous, and a ticket costs 16 dollars right now. Even our expensive neighbour Norway has better prices.
Is that the case here? Are any of the distributors or financiers attached to the larger Hollywood houses?
I'm glad they're having so much success, but I'm not sure international would be a good idea. The entire premise is something of American concern, and the whole attempt at mass media destroying it wouldn't go full Streisand Effect elsewhere. Just my opinion though, I'd welcome being wrong.
European Taken would have been 80 minutes of the father on the phone trying to get the police to take the situation seriously before accepting he did everything he could.
That reminds me a bit of a French film called The Prey, starring one of my personal favourite actors, Albert Dupontel.
Long story short, guy's family gets targeted by a child-trafficking rapist who he was in prison with, and the guy stops at nothing to protect his family and personally deal with the child rapist.
It was a pretty cool film.
In many ways, Taken also felt more like a Western European film than a typical American film. The way it was shot and paced reminded me a lot of Snabba Cash and Headhunters.
You don't think the movie can stand on its own?
I would see it, am not American. Story sounds interesting in its own.
It will probably be shown in smaller non-chain cinemas that show a lot of indie films.
Hope it comes to Aus
Multiple Norwegian outlets did write ups/reviews early on, all referred to it as a "action movie"
Depends on the content, how much language they need to dub / subtitle and whether any major stars are in it.
Some do extremely well, others find a limited market.
I see Jesus/Jim Cav-something in that pic, does that count? Apart from Passion of the Christ and the original Frequency I can't actually remember what else he's been in, however.
Person of Interest was great, and quite on point.
He was in Angel Eyes with Jennifer Lopez!
Person of Interest vaguely rings a bell but wouldn't have been one I came up with without a prompt. The other examples given by yourself and others are unknowns to me, however.
