I hope this time Nintendo doesn't fix what isn't broken and go galaxy brain. Just keep the dockable portable gaming device, but replace with a better chip + more faster RAM. DLSS (the temporal upscaling part, not the bullshit frame interpolation part) will help with power savings on handheld mode and increasing fidelity on docked mode.
If the Nintendo accounts are truly cross-platform, then I hope that also means Switch 1 games are 100% backwards compatible.
I don't know much about the switch, but isn't it basically a mobile phone? I suspect they are going to do exactly as you say and just use a new generation of commercially available IP. They're not gonna design another PowerPC like they did for the Gamecube.
I know it's ARM, but isn't it more than superficially similar to a phone otherwise? That was just my impression the first time I read about it. I don't even remember why I thought that.
Oic it's a Tegra. Yeah I don't know how much success Nvidia had with those in phones. I think they intended it for that, though.
I like the Switch, but I dislike the merging of handheld and consoles. The DS was my shit back in the day and the Switch in handheld mode never felt the same to me. But I have barely played it so maybe it would grow on me.
It's been about three years since a successor has been rumoured. Every E3 a new Switch I would be announced. The news giants make big guesses on the power and games. Nintendoomed if they don't release it next to the powerful rivals that can't even seem to sell a console let alone make a good game. Then maybe an OLED version is announced and more games for the next year or so.
Eventually they will be right of course, but why believe them until it actually happens? I have a backlog for my switch and I fully intend to play that before I get another switch. Also, the console hasn't dropped in price, nor have many of the games in years. I was going to buy it when it hit $200 but eventually just bought one.
I've skipped every generation of Nintendo console since the GameCube. I like Mario and Zelda, but the first party games and JRPGs aren't enough to sell me on a $300-$350 console. The whole "it's a handheld and a console!" thing always struck me as a gimmick to mask that it's running such weak hardware. I honestly dont want a handheld and, if I did, the Switch is bigger than I would choose.
I can't see the next iteration of basically the same thing interesting me either.
Given your description, I've only now considered that the switch basically turned out like a tablet with a controller and a game store possibly more limited than Apple's. All they need is some (more?) gacha stuff and they could turn out OK financially.

I guess you mean to ask if the Switch uses ARM (which mobile phones also use) which the answer to that is yes.

It's more akin to a tablet, imo since the Switch doesn't have cellular capabilities.

The DS was a lightweight delight. Brilliant screens and perfect balance in the hands.
The switch is heavy and many of the controls are in awkward positions.

I think the time has passed for locked down walled garden gaming handhelds.
Unless they go extreme loss leader (make their money on the games) I can't see buying another Switch.
Yep. I think Nintendo is aware that time is coming to an end, too.

Go to hell
My bad. I didn't set up the intended joke.
It's basically a phone. Nintendo could sell mobile games. I think they have started and thought about it.
