I always hear the the Critical Drinker and others of that ilk mindlessly parroting the "Captain Marvel only did well because it came out between Infinity Wars and Endgame" theory. They conveniently forget, or intentionally ignore, that Antman & the Wasp was also positioned between Infinity Wars and Endgame, but only made about half what Captain Marvel did.
Clearly there was some other factor at play.
Avatar and Fast movies subsist heavily on foreign dollars more than domestic, because Chinese and other nations love our schlocky action shit. Its why Transformers continues to make billions despite literally everyone in America shitting on it. In a way, those franchises don't even need us.
That's why there is this huge trend currently of losing money for these studios. They've become so reliant and used to these bugmen dollars making bank for them they forgot why the bugmen paid them in the first place.
Marvel is in a different place because it tried so hard to be a political tool in America, which meant it needed to become American cultural landmarks.
It’s an understatement to merely describe it as “positioned between” the two films. Infinity War ends with a shot of Nick Fury paging Captain Marvel right before he gets dusted. It all but tells you “this is important viewing before Endgame.” That’s a little more than “oh, it happens to be between them.” If that’s what Critical Drinker et. al. are saying, they’re doing a poor job explaining what happened that makes people say that.
Ironically, it’s actually Ant Man & The Wasp, which Infinity War did not make any effort to allude to, that was more relevant as set-up.
I also agree with u/BetterNameUnfound that the box office numbers for a lot of Hollywood films—particularly the woke ones—may be suspect.
Had never heard of it, but I’ve never really been a Marvel fan. Went and watched one trailer. No need to even watch this video. Wow, that looks like shit. It’s looks like a TV show produced for angsty teen girls to air on Nickelodeon.

The numbers are fake.
There were videos of near-empty theaters at Captain Marvel screenings.
Think about it: How much money did Avatar: The Way of Water make? How about any Fast and the Furious movie from 7 on?
Do you see anybody talking about these movies?
It's all fake.
Fake.

When was Ant Man hyped up as the ultimate VAvenger and hottest shit on Earth or off it?

Same boat here except I saw a video critical of marvel humor(aka serious moments ruined by le random funni). Marvel just isn't for me.
"Everyone hates this character what do we do?"
"Team her up with the worst character ever shat out an SJWs ass?"
"Perfect!"
