I always hear the the Critical Drinker and others of that ilk mindlessly parroting the "Captain Marvel only did well because it came out between Infinity Wars and Endgame" theory. They conveniently forget, or intentionally ignore, that Antman & the Wasp was also positioned between Infinity Wars and Endgame, but only made about half what Captain Marvel did.
Clearly there was some other factor at play.
The numbers are fake.
There were videos of near-empty theaters at Captain Marvel screenings.
Think about it: How much money did Avatar: The Way of Water make? How about any Fast and the Furious movie from 7 on?
Do you see anybody talking about these movies?
It's all fake.
Fake.
Avatar and Fast movies subsist heavily on foreign dollars more than domestic, because Chinese and other nations love our schlocky action shit. Its why Transformers continues to make billions despite literally everyone in America shitting on it. In a way, those franchises don't even need us.
That's why there is this huge trend currently of losing money for these studios. They've become so reliant and used to these bugmen dollars making bank for them they forgot why the bugmen paid them in the first place.
Marvel is in a different place because it tried so hard to be a political tool in America, which meant it needed to become American cultural landmarks.
When was Ant Man hyped up as the ultimate VAvenger and hottest shit on Earth or off it?
