That’s kind of been Final Fantasy since 7. I remember there was a cutscene so long that the game asked me if I wanted to save in the middle of it. Gave up on FF after that. Made the mistake of trying again with 13. Not bothering after that.
This made me laugh. It's spot-on critique. That's kind of still Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy 14 has about 500 hours of cutscenes and the very worst/best of the lot warn you to set aside sufficient time for them. (Since it's an MMO, you can be stupid and lock yourself into a cutscene that plays into server downtime. Then you're 'stuck' watching that cutscene a second time.) One of the main barriers to entry for the game is the way you're obliged to clear the Main Story Quests (MSQs.) There's a whole culture of shaming cutscene skipping.
It's silly, but most people signing up for a Final Fantasy game realize this going in.
Don't confuse "series expectation whiplash" for "game quality." I have my own "expectations of Final Fantasy" not being met (solo hero in a single player game), but I still have extremely high hopes for the game. Unlike 15, the combat actually looks extremely well made, not just flashy. YoshiP (savior of 14) directing, I have no reason to have doubts.
That is their schtick. IIRC FF7 was on 3 disks because of all the videos. That cost money. They really wanted all that recorded CGI as part of their game.
So basically 99% cut-scenes and when I get control it is all quicktime events.
Sounds...sad.

Sounds like the start and end of Halo 4
That...does not inspire the confidence it ought to.
If this were the '80s, that'd be pretty awesome.
Unfortunately we're living in $CURRENT_YEAR.
A playable '80s blockbuster would be fantastic.
A playable 2020s blockbuster is race-swapped girl-bossing with unconvincing CGI stunts.
I mean.... at least FF 16 has already gotten criticism for a lack of PoCs?
