Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann Explains How New 'The Lord Of The Rings' MMO Will Differ From Tolkien's Novels
Amazon Games Vice President Christoph Hartmann recently detailed how the newly announced The Lord of the Rings MMO will differ from J.R.R. Tolkien's novels.
It will suck.
Literally skin suit. Modern authors would do well to take notice and preemptively defend their work from post facto changes.
A quiet, but extreme opposition to fanfiction would do wonders. "Read my book, share my book, dress like my book, then get a new one."
Authors tried that when fanfiction first started cropping up online, it went about as well for them as Metallica's war on Napster.
While not directly stated considering the fans that work there hate the changes and them trying to do "a fresh take" makes me think it is going to be woke garbage.
Of course it's going to be woke garbage. And it will fail. People want to play LotR for LotR.
If they want to do a "fresh take" on anything - why not create your own world & setting and not call it LotR? We all know the answer to that.
Even if it's not necessarily woke, it's going to be garbage like it is every time they give "a fresh take"
Did you see Eragon?
I liked Eragon though...
You liked that movie?
You are a comedy man.
So much mealy-mouthed weaseling.
Let me guess: it won't be "the landscape" that will be "a bit different".
"the landscape" is used instead of modern day diversity in a setting that does not have it
So every village, town, and city in LotR MMO will be 2023 London diverse. Got it. We'll have rainbow cabal quests and trans elves. And.. if you dare to complain about it you'll be free marketing for Amazon as they call you an -ist.
So, is this at all related to the LotR MMO Amazon was working on with Tencent a couple years ago, or a new thing?
The most important thing you should have learned from New World is do your networking and server architecture properly and not rely on client-side validation. Oh, and have a solid amount of content (especially non-PVP content) at launch.
But, that aside, and the woke garbage aside, these paragraphs immediately turn me off to the game. MMO need constant, early rewards is code for "flood them with lootboxes, gifts, etc." as soon as they log in. And every single MMO (heck, game, not just MMO) that has done that inevitably ends up pushing you to the cash shop so that you can keep buying more rewards. And forget that nonsense.
then👏it's👏not👏lord👏of👏the👏rings👏👏👏👏
I suppose the LotR is one of the few examples of White mythology. It certainly explains why these ass wipes are so intent on shitting all over it.
Because MMOs are sooo easy to get right and profitable you just can't help make ANOTHER one? How dumb can they get?
No one would give him give "generic fantasy mmo #9917" a second glance. The number of dull people I've spoken to that really enjoyed the direction that Rings of Power took the franchise is disheartening.
Also, it's not about selling a game or even utilizing an IP. It's about perverting everything that is wholesome and destroying the legacy of western authors.
You don’t think lines like “a ship floats because it looks to the light, a stone sinks because it looks to the darkness” are amazing, Nobel Prize-level writing that speak to modern audiences in exciting ways?!?
