I never looked into it, so I don’t know how true it is, but the complaint I usually hear was organ (maybe kidney, specifically) failure. In your comment, you talked about how “bubbly pink blood” was not a COVID symptom as reported, but a ventilator symptom. I think something similar may be happening when this article talks about organ failure here:
The findings refute the idea that a cytokine storm following COVID-19 – an overwhelming inflammation response causing organ failure – was responsible for a significant number of deaths. There was no evidence of multi-organ failure in the patients studied.
The article may be inadvertently touching on the side effect of and coverup for Remdesivir. On the other hand, if the study found no evidence of organ failure, they may be (inadvertently) suggesting that that was false; it doesn’t look like they tracked how many people in their study were given Remdesivir.
Whether it caused organ failure or not, it certainly doesn't have any anti-viral effects. Classic example of the FDA approving a treatment with lower than 2% effectiveness while banning people from using over-the-counter meds.
What's with Remdesivir?
Kidney failure
