“Resign-to-run” should be the law of the land. Why should taxpayers foot the bill for DeSantis’, or anyone else’s, campaign? Who’ll be doing the job he was elected to do while he runs for President?
Why is the draft a law, or the income tax? Why was FDR allowed to seize privately-owned specie, or Nixon to untie currency from money? Why is the NSA allowed to trade intel on Brits for intel on Americans if their charter and our rights prevent collection of the same? Why is it illegal to consume mushrooms that grow on your own property?
What is legal is not always right (in fact, I would argue it rarely is) and what is illegal is not always wrong. The "popular" opinion has no moral validity to anyone other than those so weak they treat perceived consensus as a survival mechanism.
You can see some Trump cultists getting livid over even having a primary.
Steve Bannon actually said that the 2024 primary debates and 2024 primary itself be cancelled and that Trump should automatically be the nominee.
These talking points then went out and you have Trump 2024 influencer scum Alex Bruesewitz, Laura Loomer and Paul Ingrassia repeating it.
Failed AZ governor candidate Kari Lake and failed NH rep candidate Karoline Leavitt were openly demanding that the primary be called for Trump without anyone even voting yet.
These same people keep boasting that Trump will crush DeSantis while at the same time demanding DeSantis not even run and that Trump should be automatically handed the nomination for 2024.
Really makes you think what are they scared about?
There were reports that Trump was going to go personally lobby against this, but he chickened out.
And if that is indeed true, it backs up my theories that he wouldnt run third party if he loses the primaries. His image is all about "I am a winner", so why would he causes the ultimate lose when he can just take a minor lose and then spin it some way?
No, I don't think Trump is going to run third party. When he refused to say that he'd endorse before, he was just being himself and trolling the media. Trump wants to win. He doesn't want to be a spoiler.
So not only is this a non-issue, Florida is actually the odd one out in requiring it in the first place.
But I'm sure histrionic leftists are still going to act like this is literally Hitler enacting literal fascism.

Campaigning for re-election is a necessary evil unless we institute one-and-done laws. Campaigning for a different job isn’t.
So why isn't this a law in most other states, if your opinion is the common one?
What's right and wrong is not a popularity contest.
Okay, then try to make it illegal.
Otherwise get mad, and then get over it.

Okay, so you too have bitched about this stuff before, right? You're not just mad because it's against orange man?
Because shitbag politicians pass laws that benefit themselves.
Okay, so clearly you've complained about this law before right? You're not just bitching because you're a trump cultist?
It's mostly Trumpers being faux-mad about this.
There were reports that Trump was going to go personally lobby against this, but he chickened out.
The trump cultists are actually mad about it. There's no faking that.

Eh if it's the law, the law can be changed. It's not sacred.
