It will lead to that: Japan is not magically immune to American cultural colonization and imperialism.
But it's so much cheaper and easier to make manga than comics, that the doujin market will always be competitive with the serials.
Ever heard of CLAMP? They started as a doujin circle, it can happen.
Doujinshi scene is a entry point into japanese mangaka career.
Take a glance at any accomplished mangaka, there are good odds that they started of in a doujin circle.
