After a long week of bullshit we need a light topic now and again. We all know how important music can be and the intro and outro to a show can be a factor in giving it a try or sticking with it. But which ones were WAY TOO good for the shows they were used in your opinions?
For me, this op made by Myth & Roid was too good for the show it was used in, Isekai Cheat Magician. I actually stuck with it longer for the op but it didn't get better so dropped it.
This one is the reason I'm making this, the ed for a new show I tried My one-hit kill sister by Valiswas really good in my opinion to a show that could end up average though I hope it stays good(really simple premise and sister is WAY too into her brother)
An Honorable mention, the 2nd ed for yuusha yamemasu the show itself was good but this ed elevated it especially with the tone shift half-way through.
So yeah, which shows op and eds did you go 'yeah this show is average/boring/bad but the music is fantastic!'
Lilium was a great OP for a trash show like Elfen Lied.
The ending for that show was pretty decent too. I still listen to it every now and then.
Often too good for anything, no matter how good the anime.
A lot of my favorite anime songs end up being Myth & Roid.
Also, it's a good anime, but the song is still so good that it fits the theme: Tonikawa opening.
In the same vein of the anime being great, but the music also being ridiculous, the intro and outro of Chivalry of a Failed Knight are both fucking excellent.
Dude.
I'm still disappointed that there wasn't a season 2 at least a year after Chivalry of A failed Knight, I think there's one planned now but hopefully that long break didn't make everyone forget about it
A) Cool as shit, didn't know that was a thing! B) I'm more concerned about the quality diminishing, than people forgetting about it. If the break is too long, the anime often just doesn't feel the same. Recent examples being The Devil is a Part-Timer, as well as The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Not even saying either is bad, it's just that when starting them neither had quite the same feel, at least for me.
On the other hand, the new Konosuba is great so far, so it can go either way. Hope Chivalry falls into the latter camp.
It's mixed with how a long hiatus can affect quality as Attack on Titan had a long hiatus between season 1 and 2 and the quality was still fantastic. Arifureta was ok first season but improved with less ganky CGI in the second.
And then there's stuff like Dragon Maid where it felt like it went on another level in the second season. So luckily it's not a universal of 'long break, worse results'
I've gotta catch up with that, I've heard good things about the second season.
There was a great show called Gransazer. The ending credits song was so good I wasn't allowed to think about it while driving.
Along those lines, not anime related, but listening to Jerry Was a Race Car Driver while taking I90 through the mountains in Montana is dangerous. Listening to metal renditions of the F-Zero soundtrack is even more dangerous.
I love the route between Butte and Cour d'alene. Its a good idea to listen to the right music there.
Happened to me. I am a safe driver but "Gas Gas Gas" does strange things to me
So you're saying I shouldn't play this if you're driving near a mountain lol
Yes, they have.
I just looked it up,playing that while driving is as dangerous as playing the Doom soundtrack whilst at a shooting range lol
Pretty much.
I usually don't notice music when in games or videos, but one that directly comes to mind is the first Outro to Outlaw Star: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoxDY5G4LW8
Show is an okay-ish watch, but the outro is incredible. Moves me to tears-incredible in fact.
Intro is damn good, too.
You can't say that without linking it!

Any of the demon slayer openings/endings. Don't get me wrong, I like the series but it's nothing too special and the ending (as in the manga ending) is sadly disappointing. Also feel the anime is carried by its budget/animations. And obviously the endings but especially the openings are amazing(I really enjoy the currently airing one especially). Could've been so much more but it was a first for the mangaka so obviously I hope she learned from this and puts out an absolute banger I know she's got in her.
Kawaki wo ameku by Minami is an absolute banger and if I recall it was used as an opening for some shitty ecchi show a few years back. Good idea for a discussion topic though I would probably have more to add if I was at my computer and could look over my MAL.
EDIT: anything associated with the High School of the Dead anime. Maon Kurosaki (may she rest in peace) did a fabulous job on the endings for that one.
The one that comes to mind is Skeleton Knight in Another World. It gets the tone right, but there's a lot of meandering and not as much action as the OP suggests.
That's a quite fun show. Not super serious, but quite fun, and manages to have some solid characters despite being fairly parodying in nature. Great song too, agreed.
I like how it's almost reverse Overlord. Also, comically massive elf tits.
I'm a bit further into Skeleton Knight's story with the manga, but it's refreshing to see an isekai hero find out his avatar's OP abilities mean nothing if he's not experienced using them. Arc even has the same lack of empathy from killing like Ainz, but unlike in Overlord, there are consequences that prevent Arc from being a complete bastard (though it helps that Arc has a stronger moral compass than Ainz).
In short, Arc is a real bro, and it makes you root for him.

The original Record of Lodoss War OAV might not have been accurate to the books (which were based off the author's D&D campaign), but it's the superior anime IMO.
