I don't take "studies" seriously, but there is absolutely no doubt that the education establishment's focus on whole-word learning and 'progressive education' has done a number on the education of disadvantaged kids, and things will only go worse now that they have made their main focus racial indoctrination and sexualizing/grooming kids.

The schooling at good schools has been world class for my whole lifetime. You could do no better than a big name public magnet or private high school in the US and then of course university. I didn't have it quite that good, so don't think I'm bragging. But I did get to know a lot of people, and the ones who were best served by their formal education were the students of private, usually religious schools. Largely because of the amount of academic freedom it offered them at an earlier age than most kids get it in public school.

Intersectionality doesn't need to make sense. People love to believe that they are victims, so you don't need to make a convincing case. For intersectionality to serve its purpose for the Left, the targets - white men - don't need to agree with it, and they aren't expected to.
