Based on just listening to many people who have been in prison, safety as a chomo depends on where he is. They do get messed with. Some places have whole gangs of them. But if he's in low security, he won't be housed next to the gang members and lifers who commit prison crimes.
I've heard people tell it both ways: That chomos were severely abused/killed and that it was NBD.
Then don't do the crime, see simple solution.

Well I usually hear the “I’m a person of color” from black ppl the most. So I just assumed.
