Ad from a comic book I just finished from 1991. Sadly this would probably outrage social media today. (media.kotakuinaction2.win)

It did outrage the religious right at the time. Laughably said it'll turn people into satanists woOoOo.

In hindsight I'd prefer a society that gatekeeps anything with a vague whiff of satanism compared to what we have now.

they were right, just not in the way they thought

In metaphorical terms, they were completely right about that.

If they had been able to articulate the problem without appeals to god and religion, they might have been more successful.

I don't think so. People want to do whatever they want. They won't accept "restrictions."

The last two years heavily disagree with you. All you need to do is spin your restrictions as the moral thing to do, and the average goy will clap like a trained seal as his own family is being escorted into a concentration camp.

Good point, but really I was talking morality, not inflation/green energy.

Well, I'm saying this as an atheist (technically agnostic but it's pretty much the same thing).

I grew up in in middle of that stuff and the arguments they levelled at media were so laughably assinine to my ears, it genuinely felt like listening to a small child talking about something they had no idea about.

Now, it turns out they did know something. The argument they should have been making is that, as much as people don't like to believe it, half the population is fucking stupid and this level of advanced escapism is going result in literally millions of cases of arrested development, and we'll have a generation that is more interested in playing games and never ending their teenage rebellion phase. That instead of getting jobs and having children and keeping society running, they'd sooner ignore all of the wisdom that built what we have, just so that they can live in this illusion of never-ending youth and play where reality is ignored the rules of their fantasies are what they seek to live by.

It would've been harder to parse than the claim of 'satanism', but also harder to dismiss.

The end result decades later would have still been the same. Arguments aren't really the problem here. People want drugs, fornication and every perversion you can think of. These things aren't solved by arguments, they're solved by the chastisement of ruined generations. Most people only learn by suffering.

Some people are really blackpilled these days but I believe things will get better with the experience of negative example, perhaps after another century of horrors. The maxim of personal liberty that the west was founded on isn't enough to last more than a few centuries. A higher standard is needed and is likely to be developed long after we're dead.

I think industrial technological productivity forestalling the fall guarantees the horrors of the fall will be that much worse.

Uncle Ted isn't wrong.

I remember that. I’ve been a Christian all my life and remember my mom not letting us watch it. I also remember contact lectures about freedom of expression to the religious right or the phrase “don’t like it don’t watch”. That’s fine but I once told one of these people that same phrase because they whines about lack of “representation”. Of course that’s “too important” to just ignore for them

Ah back when your stat rolls told you what race and class you'd play. A simpler time.
