I had a feeling they were being disingenuous, but the fact the director said "testosterone is a poison" is enough to make their claim seem questionable at best. The fact it's a Disney movie is more than enough reason for me to never watch it.
Unfortunate. We finally get a movie that isnt Marvel, with a strong pro-father and pro-family message ("A father protects," "this family is our fortress" etc), with a white male (blue actually) lead, where the entire plot revolves around the strength of the nuclear family and parents love for their children, and people dont turn out for it.
Notice how the family are a bunch of non-white indigenous people? That gives them a lot more leeway in what kind of culture they can have, even if it includes things lefties hate about white culture (or more accurately, things they accuse white culture of having). Case in point: they vaunt endlessly for Islam, despite it being one of the most downright misogynist, homophobic, murderous, rapacious, genocidal, slave-driving, and theologically-driven civilizations in the world. Purely because its practitioners are brown. I guarantee you, Jamie boy would balk at any story that portrays fatherhood and family in an idyllic light if the characters were white.
Similarly, notice how all the bad guys in Avatar are white humans?
Who wants to pay $50 to sit for almost three hours with a bucket of overpriced popcorn and be scolded by an elderly billionaire?
Not I.
Funny enough, the prices for tickets and popcorn are so expensive is because of Disney and their film selling practices.
So 'Cinemascore' is the new 'Hollywood benchmark'?
What is it with films based around water?
This is 2022's Waterworld.
It makes me happy to see James "testosterone is a poison" Cameron lose heavily. This will probably be his last movie if it does as badly as I hope.
Waterworld was actually good though.
I prefer The Postman when considering Kevin Costner post-apoc films but WW does have its own charm.
They’ve already made the next one lol
lol don't try to frame this horse shit as some sort of anti-woke movie.
the movie plot is literally that humans are evil. it's as woke as they come.
the whole fucking movie is anti-human anti-development environmentalism.
