I was at a company that had HR saying hiring more black people would increase company revenue. Guess how that turned out.

So yeah, stupid people do think it'll help.

Did anyone ask them to specifically boreal down how that would work?

"Companies will want to spend money with us when they see we are diverse!"

That was the reasoning. It turns out that nobody actually cares about that and hiring based on skin color, not candidate quality, leads to subpar results. They still spew the same DIE crap but at least we don't hear about how it's a core pillar to increasing company profit anymore.

And the big issue with DEI is that it is a department that has to find problems or they are out of a job. Similar to welfare. Getting people back on track and making good choices isn’t in their best interest

The answer I've always heard was "More diverse people mean more diverse creative solutions, which in turns means higher chance of success and more money.". As in, they truly think white people can only come up with solutions A, B or C, and if you want D or E, you have to have black people.

Don't bother telling them about "diversity of opinions or beliefs" though, you'll get REEEEEEEEEEEEE'd very quickly.

Yea, I always respond with the idea that diversity of thought is more important than checking boxes. My company has great benefits and is overall good but they really are obsessed with diversity and I point that out in every employee survey.

It's a direct result of thought policing. Much like feminism, trannyism, MMT, ESG, etc. you forbid people from exercising any critical thinking and bombard them with propaganda, then blame all their failures on the people who tried to warn them.

Society can absorb the losses for only so long.
