When Hearthstone came out I know most people in my office played it. I know people in IT admin that play FIFA/WoW when they are bored and have nothing to do.
It's the nerdy way of "lets meet in the kitchen and talk for 30min"
It's normal and the bosses know.
As long as you get your job done in time and are productive in general, no one cares. Especially when you do it while staying late and you answer questions your coworkers have who are working late. It's the same reason why all those cool gimmicks like yoga room, sleeping cabs, ... exist in those companies. They want you to stay late and enjoy your time there. Even if you do 15min more work after playing WoW for 2hours then it's better than you leaving immediately.
Yep. Most of the time it is done to reset your mind as being stuck because you tend to get stuck in a certain way of thinking when you get stuck on a single problem for a couple of hours. Just reset for 30 min and you can go continue with a fresh look at it. More efficient than staying stuck for 6 hours and then solving it in 10 min the next day.
I guess people who play wow have more privacy? It might be difficult to heal a raid with people coming by every few seconds.
Raids and dungeons might be off limits, but battlegrounds and world content should be fine if you just have to be on call until somebody has trouble that needs shooting. Just play something that can disengage from combat at will, like Mage, Paladin or Rogue.
