I suspect it's one of the cases where SJWs hear the word gorilla and assume "YOU SAID GORILLA, YOU MUST BE TALKING ABOUT BLACKS!"

People joke about this stuff. I've had a very left-wing acquaintance at university (who is otherwise alright) make a joke about me being a terrorist, specifically because of my ethnicity. I can't imagine making a big deal out of it .
