Anime is in a golden age. Dozens of shows are coming out every season, and even the mediocre ones are all looking as good as the shows that used to score 9/10 masterpieces.
And Anime does not include an homosexual, a tranny and a black skinned character in all episodes. Maybe a couple of episodes have them, but not as a matter of policy.
Invincible is great (Amazon). How can Amazon make such a great show on one hand and then shit out Lawd dem Rangz on the other hand with a $1BILLION budget? Insane.
tl;dr: Steven Universe and it's consequences have been a disaster for the animation industry.
I have no idea how that damn show became so popular. It wasn't funny, it took forever for the story to actually get going, it kept dipping into forced melodrama, the characters were annoying, and the art style was ugly (and this was before the CalArts style became the cancer it is today). Hell, even the network seemed to be trying to kill it with how they erratically aired and paused the seasons. By all accounts, it should have been canceled after two seasons at most. Granted, I never did get the appeal of any of Cartoon Network's typical stoner cartoons, which Steven Universe didn't seem any different from on the outset, but even on that criteria, people had to have been getting sick of that type of show already.
As someone who enjoyed it early on before the frog boiled, it was very much a patented J.J. Abrams' mystery box. The show teased lots of interesting ideas and concepts before revealing the most boring, basic explanations for everything.
Pretty much every time I saw Cartoon Network running on a TV, it would play the same three or so shows, with occasional reruns
Teen Titans Go is pennies to make compared to most shows and they get huge returns on it. Its honestly just business/capitalism once the soul has left, because it makes sense as much as anyone hates it.
You bring up Steven Universe but even that show was famous at its peak for literally never getting aired, and spending most of its shelf life with zero reruns. They'd make a spectacle of a small 4 episode arc airing, and that would be most of the show's entire air time for the year.
Honestly, I think the biggest issue is that the cheap animation done by things like Youtubers have enthralled children to such a level that places like Cartoon Network could never hope to keep up.

Western animation is shit though.

And even when it comes to homosexuals, they're more played for fanservice than for societal statements.
Kadokawa took the Larry Fink money.
Did it? Where's the subversion? Pretty much every show is a faithful adaptation of a manga or light novel.
It takes a while for shows to get made.
But now that they have a "Diversity and Inclusion" section on their website, it's only a matter of time.
Subversion is hostility.
Since we're on the subject of anime, Spy Family has been excellent so far. Probably the best of the season in my opinion.
Not surprised, the manga was/is very good.
Now that I should try to get a hold of, see if I can't find a scanlation online somewhere.

It race-swapped his girlfriend. Woke.
by what standards is that great? that i only have to fast forward half of it?
