I saw a little bit of their comic con panel and they couldn’t shut up about representation. Forgive me for assuming the worst. Wheel of Time was the perfect warning to see how they would ruin source material. I’ve heard the expanse was good so I guess at one point they handled adaptations better.
Great point. I’ve been meaning to read the books and watch the expanse. And you are right. These fantasy shows that are obviously based on medieval Europe look ridiculous having a racially diverse small village. Like in the wheel of time it makes more sense to encounter different races once they travel. But yes I’d be the same with the queens guard. What his backstory is and stuff
Frankly it would be better if they "reimagined" those classic works set in African-themed villages with all Black people than the fake mixed-races globohomo themes they use today.
Or not. Give them access to African culture and they make The Woman King, a movie glorifying a bunch of murderous slavers who got rightfully BTFO'd by the French.
True or just adapt some folklore from Africa. I’ve read mythology/folklore from all over. There is a massive amount of it. If I read European folklore I want to see European culture and learn. Same with other areas
This is what sets apart the first season of GoT with the latter seasons and House of Dragons. I know they can't spend entire episodes on travel but when a character is one place and then it fades out and back in and they are hundreds of miles away it makes the world feel small.
The fast travel paradox. Without it, worlds feel massive and real but nobody wants to put in the time getting anywhere. With it, worlds feel small and pointless so nobody cares enough to explore.
Maybe is just me but representation and poor writing direction aside this does not look like 1 billion dollars production value.
Not saying I'm right but every scene I've seen seemed off somewhat, artificial, more like a game then a movie, either the costumes or the backgrounds and light, I can't point to something specific but something is off. It may be just my brain seeing to much in to it.
I agree. All they had to do was a faithful adaptation
They want to take everything you love and shove it in shit then call you racist while they seal clap about diversity.
I’ll never understand the recent obsession with diversity these last few years. It has been shown numerous times that white people will support a black or mostly black show/movie. Cosby Show, Fresh Prince, Family Matters etc. Blade was quite popular when it came out and look at Denzel Washington. So it was odd to me to see them constantly talking about it. They have achieved the opposite. Anything in the last few years with black or female leads makes me less likely to watch because my assumption is that it will be a feminist lecture or one about race.
That’s why my rule of thumb is to be very wary of anything after 2014
Listening to wokes bragging about representation always reminds me of car salesmen going on about how important it is to get the undercoat to protect the paint job.
I'm standing there listening to them try to sell me on this useless fluff that contributes nothing to the product as though if I'm not interested in it there's something wrong with me.
All the while, they're banging on with this weird, manic energy, completely oblivious to how uninteresting their sales pitch is.
I wouldn't give a shit about this fluff under normal conditions, let alone when they're trying to sell me the damn thing on a car that only has three fucking wheels.
