Many decades ago, two of my best friends in high school were gay; Kerry and Kevin. They were a year ahead of me and when they graduated moved straight out to California. The next time I saw them; I forget how long it was but probably June when they graduated and came back for Christmas. Not really that long.
But holy hell, I was stunned as a small town partying boy when I next saw my friends again. They were both very broken. I just remember massive sadness, pain, never smiling or laughing. They didn't go into detail but apparently they went to LA/Hollywood and ended up being boy toys for some older gay men there and got pretty abused, being used by many.
