No, that is simply not true. US companies are free to say no, and there are many documented cases of them saying no. Companies are aware that if they get caught, they'll go bankrupt, so they as a rule don't do it.
edit: There is a lot of public documented legal battles confirming that major tech companies refused to cooperate with the US government and successfully fought off fed attempts to make them comply. You have a point regarding that apple case but that was regarding data on the device and since phones transmit a lot back to headquarters it makes little difference. The govt can demand that in complete secrecy.

US government data collection on Americans is severely constrained and required to go through shit like the FISA court. This is why shit like the feds spying on the trump campaign was such a scandal.
And for what the US doesn't gather on US citizens directly, it has the other members of the 5 eyes do for them and share it.
Aint no rule against the british spying on us patriots and passing it along to us feds. The cunts.
