Company that's teaming up with carriers to bring ads to Android lock screen says users will "consume what is shown to them" (archive.ph)

I think they are right. It's part of the consumption-centric culture shift. If you pay attention to young people you will see just how much of their life choices are driven by what is advertised to them. I don't see it quite as much in men my age and older, but I know some younger guys and women that trying to get them to try something they haven't been advertised via some sort of social media influencer or Youtuber you might as well be talking to a wall. I wouldn't expect invasive lock screen ads to be as effective, but well what do I know?

But what if the invasion lock screen ads feature stars such as Kendall Jenner or Mr. Beast?

And this is the entire reason Apple has their Apple News app bundled with iOS and Firefox makes Pocket articles show up in new tabs. A lot of people just read what they are shown.

And this will only fuel an economy for jailbreaking their phones.

For some people, but most people are borderline technologically retarded, including millenials and zoomers. The vast majority of people can't even be assed to tinker around with the settings menu, let alone jailbreaking. Most people I know still watch Youtube ads.

Most people I know still watch Youtube ads

I've noticed this tends to be democrat supporters in my area. They rudely watch their fucking random playlists loudly in the breakroom and laugh at things that aren't jokes. They often are rude bitches who do a fake 'haha' after being a bitch like they are embarrassed they were rude and are trying to play it off as a joke. They also are quick to jump at their own dog whistles and never question their own beliefs. A severe lack of empathy and understanding, no compromising in anyway. They are truly some of the most awful people.

Not all, but enough that it tends to be trend.

This doesn't surprise me. Ads have become increasingly intrusive in our lives. We even have video ads at gas station pumps. There's a constant noise of "Buy this! Buy this!" that's mentally deafening. Windows is even experimenting with adding ads to their OS.

It's fairly elementary to block most of these ads with a simple adblocker like uBlock origin, and not watching network TV. But most people don't seem like they can be bothered. Whenever I go online without a blocker, I'm honestly a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of crap that you have to go through to just read an article, which half the time covers a big portion of the article itself.

Even if you don't have a problem with ads, this is also going to kill your battery.

I agree to a point.

If I somehow see an ad, and it is for an unknown product, I will let it go. The entire purpose of advertising is to get people to see products they would not normally. But if I see an ad for a product that I know exists, I put it on a mental do-not-buy-for-a-while list, since I don't want any sales, even ones I'd normally make, look like the advertising works.

If the ad is actively antagonistic, I forgo the product entirely.

Users will switch to flip phones or create an os without them.
