I was reading something from a controlled burn expert and they basically said there were very high winds that day and they were shocked that the team in charge still went ahead and approved it.

The reason Commiefornia has such a bad wildfire problem is because they refused to do controlled burns as part of their climate change scam. So they did the right thing but their incompetence fucked the whole thing up anyway.
The massive wildfires are what they wanted. Remember last year, when Australia had a bunch of massive wildfires, and the news filled with 'MUH CLIMATE CHANGE CAUSES MORE, BIGGER WILD FIRES'? Guess why those fires happened, and why they were so huge; Because the government decided to stop doing controlled burns, because muh climate.
It's a scam. They tell the rubes that no more controlled burns = more green yay. Then, when the wildfires happen, they blame climate change and use it as a justification for more green policies.

Yeah, bigger my ass, it was about 10% the size of the 1974/75 fire (southern hemisphere so our summers n fire seasons go across years).
What it was was in an area right up next to Sydney and Melbourne, our woke shitholes, so they all felt the smoke and could twitter it, in an area they didnt clear properly after 2x wetter years then a dry one. Perfect conditions for a fire.
You never hear any of that. No comparisons to the 74/75 fire that was 10x as big, because it doesn't work for their 'global warming' narrative.

Actually they did, on multiple levels, but when you're in power and the only person investigating you for wrong doing is you, you can afford to make any number of egregious mistakes.
